Welcome Friends.
Our farm sits on six acres in the bottom of the Marengo River valley in northern Wisconsin (up by Lake Superior). It is a bucolic setting to live our dream of raising a family, farming, and producing livestock. Our neighbors are dairy farmers turned organic, grass-fed beef producers and have been very helpful to us newbies.
We bought our first pregnant alpaca in 2008 and since then have been slowly improving and building our herd and farm infrastructure. We took the Farm Beginnings program, taught by farmers, through the Lake Superior Sustainable Farming Association, and bit-by-bit the pieces are coming together--sometimes to our amazement!
Our goal is to raise beautiful Suri alpacas, focusing on breeding them for fiber production, and have them help us improve our land, using sustainable farming practices. The genetics of the animals in our small herd are good and we are striving to improve them each generation, selecting males and females that will contribute to a valuable harvest of fiber each year. We utilize the alpaca manure and compost it to grow vegetables for ourselves, as well as a substantial garlic crop.
We love talking about farming and alpacas. We hope to talk to you soon!
Thank you for visiting our site.
Sincerely,
Jamie and Abigail Klema
