Why not?
Here is Emperor our gelding llama and Oliver our first cria, a companion/fiber boy. They were pretty content to get to work mowing the grass and I was content to let them. I envision utilizing them to keep the grass trimmed in areas. Just pop-up these handy camelid panels where the grass is getting too long, lead the animals over, and voila!
It is nice not to use the lawnmower all the time and nice to share that tasty green stuff with the alpacas, especially on our small acreage. I think these guys thought it was pretty fun to be somewhere different.
Here they are trimming up the grass under the apple tree last spring. Emperor even did us a "favor" and took out some low-lying branches, just at eye-poking height. Thank you Emperor, you really are a good farmhand.

We are taking the Lake Superior Sustainable Farming Association's "Farm Beginnings" Program. It is a very exciting farmer-to-farmer training program. We always learn a lot in the classes and come away feeling inspired and empowered to put what we've learned into practice on our farm. More on this later...
